New York Knicks: Alec Burks | B- (80/100 points)

Entertainment Value: 8 points
Future with the Knicks: 7 points
Stability: 11 points
Chemistry: 18 points
Eye Test: 15 points
Statistics: 21 points

Entertainment Value: You know what you’re getting with ten-year NBA vet Alec Burks. Three-level scoring from a good defender who can play multiple positions. He’s never been the main attraction, but when Burks gets cookin’ he can score bunches in little time.

Future with the Knicks: Like many players on this Knicks team, Burks’ one-year contract is over, forcing New York to either re-adjust another one or let him walk. I’m caught between the middle on him because if they find a better player in the draft or free agency, they can afford to let him walk. However, Burks played well enough to get brought him if NY so chooses.

Stability: The New York Knicks were blessed with a fairly healthy team this season. Burks was one of the few that missed an extended period of time. An early-season injury cost Burks most of January.

Chemistry: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Burks knew his role, played to his abilities and that’s really all you can ask in a role player. Giving 20/20 doesn’t come easy and shot selection/heat checks fall into this category.

Eye Test: I was a fan of Burks, but sometimes he puzzled me. He was counted on as a player to make shots off the bench, but too many 3-of-14 and 6-of-18 games just weren’t the best to watch.

Statistics: For all those bad games Burks also had a lot of scoring outbursts. Burks had a five-game stretch in March where he scored at least 20 points in each game. The Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson also only had one such streak. Say what you want, but Burks was a lethal player off the bench for the New York Knicks this season.
