New York Knicks Obi Toppin | C+ (75/100 points)

Entertainment Value: 7 points
Future with the Knicks: 8 points
Stability: 13 points
Chemistry: 16 points
Eye Test: 14 points
Statistics: 17 points

Entertainment Value: Obi Toppin was selected eighth by the New York Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft. Part of his skill set is his dunking. Whether an alley-oop or a fastbreak opportunity, Toppin is one of the best dunkers on the Knicks. However, there were few chances to showcase it.

Future with the Knicks: Given he signed a 2-year rookie contract, Toppin will be around next season. He started to play better toward the end, offering hope that he could turn into a solid player.

Stability: Getting hurt in the first game of the season and missing ten consecutive games thereafter won’t lend any trust to Toppin’s health. However, he didn’t miss a single game thereafter, so I’m willing to catch him a break.

Chemistry: At times it seemed like Toppin either wasn’t ready for the NBA or didn’t quite fit in the system. However, as a youngster, it can be challenging to adjust to the big leagues. On a team with so much young talent, Toppin should mold into a better fit soon.

Eye Test: Here’s where I didn’t see a lot I loved from Toppin. His shot certainly needs work and he needs to be more aggressive. Toppin didn’t see a lot of court time, but he’ll need to work on making the most of the minutes he does get.

Statistics: From March 13 to the end of the season, the New York Knicks played 34 games. Toppin played in all of them and only committed FIVE turnovers. Sure, he might be passive to score, but he’s at least strong with the basketball.
