Here’s why the NY Knicks should avoid drafting Jared Butler

If one thing is known about coach Tom Thibodeau, it’s that he likes his veteran guys. Players who have experienced the NBA and know what it takes to be successful.

Just look at Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson, it seems those two are always playing for Thibodeau no matter where he is coaching.

So if history repeats itself, the Knicks could be looking to land a point guard like Kyle Lowry or Mike Conley Jr. and not a rookie in Jared Butler.

Maybe this is the route the Knicks will take after they take a look at some of Butler’s weaknesses.

For example, Butler isn’t the most athletic guy in the draft so he won’t be the fastest or strongest which could hinder his performance when taking his game to the next level.

He’s not a true point guard like his teammate Davion Mitchell, but he is also a bit undersized to play the shooting guard role.

This could lead to some awkward lineups whatever team he is on.

Another question in Jared Butler’s game is his decision-making. At times he develops “tunnel vision” which last year led him to commit 85 turnovers, the third-highest in the country.

Just like any prospect, they have their pros and cons. If the Knicks are on the clock and Jared Butler is on the board, they certainly have their homework to do.
