NY Knicks: What could trades for Dejounte Murray or Derrick White look like?
Should the NY Knicks make this trade for Derrick White?
Derrick White is the least likely of the two guards to be traded to the Knicks in my opinion.
Firstly, he’s 27 years old and it would suit the team better to get players between their two star’s ages in RJ Barrett and Julius Randle.
Second, he’s more of a shooting guard that does the most of his dirty work off-ball. Not something that the Knicks need badly at the moment.
He was drafted as a point guard so he’s got some playmaking skills, but all in all, probably not the way to go unless the Knicks had an idea of who they wanted to start at the PG spot on opening day next to White.
Both guards are 15 point per game scorers, and while White isn’t the same facilitator that Murray is, he’s a much better shooter.
White shot just shy of 35% from deep on the season and is only getting better as he develops more trust in his shot.
The trade is pretty simple, the Spurs again get Kevin Knox to add to their wing depth, and hopefully, he can get a bit more playing time on a weaker team.
They also grab the 21st pick in this year’s draft which can either be used by San Antonio or packaged with the 12th pick and some other pieces to move up.
White wouldn’t be my first choice, nor my second or third.
But if this was the deal and the Knicks had a surefire plan for the point guard spot, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
But for now, I don’t see White as the point guard the Knicks need today.
