With all this hooplah about the NY Knicks potentially trading for guys like Damian Lillard or Collin Sexton, I think they should be a little more conservative and consider players like Dejounte Murray or Derrick White if they were to come available.

It has recently been reported that the pair of Spurs guards could be gettable as San Antonio will be likely losing their best player in DeMar DeRozan in free agency and don’t really have a core centerpiece to build around.

The Spurs currently hold the 12th pick in this year’s draft, so trading one or both of the two guards for young assets and draft compensation could be wise.

The 2021 NBA Draft is viewed as one of the deepest classes we’ve seen in quite a while but is also viewed as one of the stronger classes as well.

Should the NY Knicks trade for Dejounte Murray or Derrick White?

While there is a clear top 6 players in the class, there’s plenty of guys outside of those 6 names that have high ceilings and could very well provide San Antonio with a star-caliber player to build the team around for the next 10+ years.

The Spurs getting up into those top 6 names would be difficult, but if they were to pair pick #12 with some other pieces, getting as high as 7 could be done with relative ease.

As a Knicks fan, for my favorite team to currently be in a better position to succeed than the San Antonio Spurs who recently went 20 years without missing the playoffs, is baffling and I couldn’t be prouder.

But that only means that the pressure is on and the Knicks need to kick things into high gear and start acquiring some win-now pieces.

Both of the guards in question could be viable trade options for a Knicks team that’s been starved of a good point guard for the better portion of the last 20 years.

They both come with a number of strengths that could fit within Thibs’ system, but they also come with their fair share of weaknesses as well.

Here we’ll explore what a trade for either of the two San Antonio backcourt players could look like.
