Would Trey Murphy III fit well with Julius Randle on the NY Knicks?
Trey Murphy is my personal favorite player in this year’s draft and if he found his way onto the Knicks, that’d be the next jersey I buy.
I know we’re talking about guys that would fit well next to Julius Randle, and while some would argue that Murphy projects to be more of a 4 than a 3, I think he’s got the foot speed to keep up with small forwards in this league.
He’s another player that I could see starting at the 3-spot by next season because of his defensive prowess and uncanny ability to shoot the 3-ball.
Murphy spent two seasons at Rice and then transferred to Virginia for his Junior season.
Even with facing better opposition on a nightly basis, he still maintained his scoring and shooting numbers.
In fact, he shot better from deep at Virginia than he did his two seasons prior at Rice and shot over 40% for his entire collegiate career.
Let’s just say Murphy already has an NBA-caliber skill in his arsenal and could end up being the best shooter of this draft class.
In a lot of ways, he reminds me of Phoenix’s Cam Johnson who’s helping lead a team in the finals alongside Devin Booker and Co as we speak.
Prior to the NBA Combine, Murphy was projected as a late-first or early-second round pick and I was hoping the Knicks would be able to scoop him up at pick #32 but now it seems he’s climbed so high up most team’s draft boards that NY would be lucky if they got him at pick #21.
