Ian Begley of SNY recently reported that Duncan Robinson has ‘fans’ within the Knicks organization.
While highly doubtful, they do have the ability to be big spenders and replicate what the Atlanta Hawks did last season where they went out and bought everyone they possibly could that was on their wishlist.
Seeing how Atlanta went from a bottom-feeder to the Eastern Conference Finals within a year’s time, perhaps the Knicks follow suit.
"As noted last month, Nunn was among the guards on the Knicks’ radar as they considered their offseason plans. Nunn shot 38.1 percent from beyond the arc on nearly six attempts per game this season and shot it remarkably well in the second half of the season. The interesting thing with Nunn and Duncan Robinson is that Miami will be forced to make a difficult decision if both players sign big offer sheets. The Heat can – and probably would – match offers to Dunn and Robinson. But bringing both players back on big contracts could hamper Miami’s future flexibility.(Robinson will probably have plenty of suitors this summer. This isn’t surprising, but Robinson has fans within the Knicks organization.)"
The Knicks are going to have upwards of $50 million to play around with this summer depending on how they approach certain in-house free agents and their new contracts.
Would you want the Knicks to sign Duncan Robinson this summer?
They could potentially have much more if they decide to not bring back some of the core pieces from last season such as Derrick Rose, Alec Burks, and Reggie Bullock.
That said, they do have the ability to bully their way through free agency and really outbid most other teams for whoever they have their eyes on.
I’m personally not all that interested in acquiring Kendrick Nunn, but Duncan Robinson is definitely appealing.
It all depends on the price.
The 27-year-old Robinson has been one of the best 3-point shooters in the league for the past 2 seasons and has been a tremendous compliment to Miami’s Jimmy Butler on the wing.
On a team led by Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, whom I’ve compared to Jimmy Butler in the past, would fit like a glove and would also provide Coach Tom Thibodeau with precisely what he had mentioned he’d be looking for this summer being a wing that can shoot.
The issue here would be the money involved to pry him away from Miami.
I’ve heard rumblings that Robinson could command anywhere from $18-20 million per season on a multi-year contract.
It would take about that to outprice the Heat completely.
Depending on how the rest of free agency and the draft unfolds, I would consider Robinson on a 3-year deal at around $60 million as long as the final year was a team option.
The Knicks are in this weird little stretch of time where every move they make counts and they need to maintain the flexibility they’ve created for themselves until they have a few superstars on the team ready to compete for a title.
What’s your take on this, Knicks fans?
