NY Knicks – #10 – Obi’s First Slam: December 11th, 2020 vs Detroit Pistons
In the New York Knicks first game of the season, they went into Detroit and came away with the victory over the Pistons, 90-84. It was Obi Toppin’s first career game, and it featured his first career dunk.
Even though it wasn’t the flashiest dunk we would see from him all year, Toppin’s first ever slam in the NBA was special enough to make the list at number 10. Seeing the high flying power forward meet the rim was something all Knick’s fans eagerly awaited ever since Toppin was selected 8th overall by New York in the 2020 NBA Draft. It was especially great to see it come in his NBA debut.
The play also gave us our first look at Toppin’s passing ability. He begins the play by bringing the ball down court, driving into the paint and making the heads up pass to Kevin Knox in the corner. Knox faked a shot, went to the rim, and got the ball back to Toppin for a wide open flush. Just a beautiful sequence to get this list started and to begin Toppin’s 20-21 dunking journey.
