NY Knicks: 2 trades that bring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to New York
NY Knicks: Packaging Mitchell Robinson in a deal for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
In this second trade, the NY Knicks get away with more assets as they also take on Kemba Walker’s 72 Million dollar contract over the next two years. There is speculation that the Knicks could have interest in bringing the New York Native back home.
If the Thunder want to trade Shai, they could also package Walker in a deal to not have to give any assets away. It will be difficult for the Thunder to move Walker, but eventually, a trade will happen.
If OKC wants to avoid teams not making a move for him, putting Shai in as the main player in a trade will make teams care a lot less about eating Walker’s enormous contract. The Knicks have the most cap space in the NBA, so taking on Walker’s contract is possible, especially if it lowers Shai’s price.
The Knicks getting Walker moves SGA to play shooting guard while Walker runs the point. The 31-year-old former UCONN Husky has shown a lot of injury concern but adds much-needed scoring and playmaking to the Knicks backcourt. They could also try to move Walker in the following summer, but regardless, landing him to lower Shai’s price would be a genius move by Leon Rose.
