New York Knicks: 3 Steps for Immanuel Quickley to take next season
New York Knicks: Immanuel Quickley can improve his finishing in the paint
Rookies tend to struggle with percentages, but Quickley’s 39.5% field goal mark needs to be improved. A large portion of his shots coming from behind the arc is certainly a factor, but he still connected on just 40.1% of his two-point field goals.
His weapon of choice when driving into the paint was his floater, but he struggled to get that shot to fall with consistency as the season progressed. Through his first 20 games, he shot 49% on his floaters. From his 20th game through the rest of the season, he hit just 38% of his floaters.
This is most likely due to opposing teams game-planning for his floater rather than Quickley simply forgetting how to hit his signature shot, but he can help combat this by developing an array of ways to finish at the rim.
He actually hit 62% of his shots at the basket, but only 34 of his 580 field goal attempts came from that distance.
He just needs to attack the rim confidently while developing a deft touch off the glass so he can torch defenses that are gearing up for his floater. This would help make him an all-around scoring threat rather than just a shooting threat.
