Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The New York Knicks are cemented in a rumor mill that has an NBA superstar landing in Madison Square Garden.

This is a painfully consistent storyline during each Knicks’ offseason. The franchise is always considered to be a major player for talents such as LeBron James (twice), Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and many more.

Yet, each season, superstar talents pass on the chance to revitalize a struggling New York team and land with more stable and talented franchises. The latest rumors have transcendent stars like Damian Lillard, Ben Simmons, and Chris Paul as potential trade targets.

The New York Knicks are in position to trade for more talent

To be fair, the New York Knicks are a far cry from the basement-dwelling team they have been for the past decade. The 2020-2021 season saw New York rebuild, earn a postseason berth, and win a home playoff game. Julius Randle is a legitimate All-Star, and RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchel Robinson are an intriguing, young, core.

However, acquiring one of these bonafide stars would assuredly require mortgaging the future by shipping out most of this core. A deal would require a Carmelo Anthony level king’s ransom to complete.

Should New York consider such a transaction? Possibly. Particularly, depending on which star and price tag. The team does, however, have less drastic options.

One of these potential trade paths would allow the Knicks to add a former first-round pick without selling the proverbial farm. As it stands, this young star would be a picture-perfect fit with the franchise’s current style of play. He is also rumored to be available. And on New York’s radar.

Who is this young star? Cleveland Cavs’ point guard Collin Sexton!
