NY Knicks: The team can afford Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose may end up being more expensive than most people want, and that’s ok. Even with Rose’s familiarity with the coaching staff, it’s hard to imagine the team with the most cap space in the league signing Rose to a “team friendly” discount.

There’s a chance Rose would want 3 years, but I think the most realistic would be a 2-year deal. 2 years, 30 million is probably around what Rose would want, and the Knicks would be wise to bring him back on that type of deal.

Again, New York can still ink one of the many big-named free agents available. Lonzo Ball, Spencer Dinwiddie, Kyle Lowry, Norman Powell – whoever it might be, New York can afford to sign a big name, sign role players, and bring Derrick Rose back.

Rose may be older, but he’s still very much in the same tier as some of the top free agents available, and I think the Knicks realize that.

If the team loses Rose, they’ll have to replace his production and leadership, which won’t be easy. Not just because of his talent, but again, his ready-to-play familiarity with the team’s system.

Despite how good Rose was for the Knicks in 2021, it still feels like he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. You could easily make the argument he was New York’s 2nd best player.
