As the NY Knicks prepare for free agency, they’re going to have to make a few decisions on their own players, including veteran guard Derrick Rose.

New York will have the most cap space of any team in the league and have been exhaustingly linked to just about every 2021 free agent. First, they have to decide who they’re bringing back from this past season’s team.

NY Knicks: Re-signing Derrick Rose should be a top priority

It’s fully reasonable to expect the NY Knicks to use their cap space on more than just re-signing players. This free-agent class may not be top-heavy, but there are still plenty of names who would be ideal fits for New York’s roster.

Still, it’s hard to imagine the team handing out multiple rich multi-year contracts on sub-All-Star level players as they try to build themselves into long-term success. The team wants to simultaneously improve while remaining flexible.

The 32-year-old Derrick Rose won’t necessarily be cheap, but he won’t demand a long-term deal either.

Rose reuniting with New York begins with his relationship with the team.
