NY Knicks: The Los Angeles Lakers could bolster their bench with Alec Burks

The Los Angeles Lakers know they have some roster adjustments to make if they want to make another championship run in 2022.

The defending champions were ousted from the NBA playoffs by the Phoenix Suns in the first round, leaving some uncertainty about the time remaining on this team’s championship window.

LA had to deal with injuries to their two franchise players LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so you know that they feel like they can still make another run so long as those two are healthy. They’ll need to add some more dynamic secondary players on offense, and Alec Burks could fill a nice role for them.

The Lakers already reportedly have interest in Derrick Rose, per ESPN’s Evan Massey. The team will likely still want to make a point guard change with Dennis Schroder heading into free agency, but they could use the knockdown shooting of Alec Burks.

LeBron James will do most of the heavy lifting for LA’s playmaking, and Burks can be a fantastic spot-up shooting option. The Lakers were just 24th in the league in 3-point shooting, and adding Burks, a 42% 3-point shooter, would be a major upgrade.

The bonus is that Burks is more than just a catch-and-shoot player – he can handle the ball when called upon. With James and Davis getting so much attention, Burks can break down limited defenses with his ball-handling and potentially fill a really nice role for LA.
