New York Knicks shooting guard target: Will Barton

I tossed back and forth with Will Barton and Duncan Robinson but decided to go with Barton for a magnitude of reasons.

For one, Robinson is a restricted free agent and for all he’s done for the Miami Heat, I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays with them. Barton has a player option though, and saw his minutes and shot attempts decrease since Michael Porter Jr. came onto the scene. This could pry Barton away from Denver and to another team, as he should receive a pretty hefty payday.

Barton is exactly what the New York Knicks need, a shooting guard by nature who can also defend small forwards, hit threes efficiently, and drive to the bucket better than most of the current Knicks G/F combos.

Barton’s defense would actually fit in perfectly in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s system, averaging nearly a steal per game for his career. Barton’s three-point game would also be sought after, as the Knicks are in dire need of another guy capable of knocking down shots from deep consistently.

His price tag wouldn’t be too high, as Barton 31 next January. He definitely won’t be cheap to come by, but if the Knicks are able to scoop him up, it’d be a roster move that would ultimately strengthen their depth and make them more competitive on both ends of the floor.
