2021 NBA Draft Mock 2.0: Los Angeles Lakers get a dynamic guard in Tre Mann

The Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round exit is going to sting, but don’t be surprised to see this group quickly rebound. This team was patching it together all season long, but really, they needed more out of their role players.

Andre Drummond and Dennis Schroder were less valuable than Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo. Now as they regroup, the Lakers need more dynamic players in their backcourt, and the 6’5 combo guard out of Florida, Tre Mann would be a perfect fit for this team.

NBA Draft- Tre Mann NBA Player Comparisons

  • CJ McCollum smoothness as a ball-handler, shot creator
  • Taller Mario Chalmers (In all of the best ways)
  • Malik Monk

Tre Mann really broke out his sophomore season at the University of Florida where he played point guard for the Gators.

Mann had a big recent growth spurt and he utilized that size in college. Mann has some underrated playmaking skills and may end up being a better facilitator than most predict.

A great understanding of how to create space with his dribble, Mann has nice quickness in tight spaces where he can find his spots. A 3-level scorer who has an NBA-ready jump shot. Mann shot just over 40% from 3 and 83% from the free throw line.

Mann doesn’t have the hyper athleticism or big first-step that some of the other guards in this draft do. You do wonder what his ceiling is, but he already has a nice understanding of motion offenses, I think he can grow off-ball in the NBA.

For the Lakers, this is a nice backcourt prospect who can play minutes at either guard spot. His shooting alone should see him in the rotation early, but he could grow into a really valuable piece in just a few years.
