2021 NBA Draft Mock 2.0: Pelicans surrounding Zion Williamson with offense, draft Moses Moody

The New Orleans Pelicans are balancing the line of “being young” and becoming a playoff team. It’s a balance that makes it easy to create excuses.

Although their franchise player Zion Williamson, is just 20 years old, there’s an aura around the team that feels dim. An aura that isn’t anywhere near as bright as the harsh fluorescent lighting of The Smoothie King Center.

The stench of disappointment is a potent one. If you let it linger, you can forget the smell is even there. It can complacently seep into the minds of fans, ownership, and most importantly, your franchise player.

Like a squirt of Febreze Mediterranean Lavender scent, Moses Moody can help mask that stench and inspire some hope around this team that so desperately needs to make a jump next season.

  • Khris Middleton
  • Kyle Kuzma – Size/activity on defense
  • Rodney Hood

Don’t ever put too much stock into the NCAA tournament – we have a lot more basketball to go by than just the tourney, and Moses Moody had a tremendous season.

I’ve seen Moody listed at 6’5 and 6’8, whatever the reality is, he has great tools to become a really good “3-and-D” player.

Moody doesn’t have the quickest feet, but he has the length, strength, and basketball IQ to be a disruptor on the perimeter.

On offense, Moody isn’t just a spot-up 3-point shooter. He loves taking those 2-3 dribble mid-range pull-up shots, and he shoots them well. He knows his hot spots on the floor.

Surrounding Zion Willamson with more complementary talent is paramount for the New Orleans Pelicans.

I’m pretty bullish on not just Williamson but Ingram’s further potential. The Pelicans have two pieces that any rebuilding team would dream to have, but they need to start making it work.

Moody not only provides secondary scoring relief, but he also gives them a scrappy defender who can potentially take on tough assignments. Moody would crack the rotation and find a nice role on this team right away.
