Trading classmates from the 2018 Draft – Kevin Knox and picks for Collin Sexton

It was recently announced that the Knicks will have the 19th and 21st picks in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft.

While there’s a ton of promising young talent coming out of this year’s class, would any of them actually impact winning and elevate a team that just finished 4th in the Eastern Conference?

Especially the players drafted so late in the 1st round? Extremely doubtful.

With 4 picks in the upcoming draft, most other teams would be looking to scour the field for as much young talent to add to their roster immediately.

But this Knicks team has Coach Tom Thibodeau at the helm and one thing we all know about Thibs is that it takes him forever and a day to trust his rookies and young players.

Consolidating the 4 picks into 2 could be the direction they go in but I think it’s far more likely that they draft MAYBE one player and trade their other picks for veteran talent to bring on next season.

Sexton being just 22 years old still fits the timeline of the rest of the roster, but also has 3 seasons of experience under his belt.

Here’s the trade I came up with:

I know there’s gonna be plenty out there calling for my head because I’m trading two 1st round picks and a young player for Sexton, but frankly, you may not understand just how good Collin Sexton actually is.

Two late first rounders and Kevin Knox is a massive underpay if you ask me.

On the other hand, there’s gonna be some who think I’m not giving up enough but In my opinion, this deal gets it done.

I can’t picture a world where Kevin Knox is on next year’s roster and would get far more of an opportunity for playing time on the Cavs than he would on the Knicks.

Both 1st round picks hurt to lose but again, they wouldn’t actually contribute to winning for another few seasons at the earliest.
