What kind of extension should the NY Knicks give to Alec Burks?

Alec Burks has just been so impressive this season.

When he’s on, he is ON…

He does give me major JR Smith vibes in that he can look like a superstar on any given night but then other nights he’s barely a factor in games.

Thankfully, his bad games are far and few between.

It’s crazy how impactful Burks has become because when he was traded to the 76ers last year from the Warriors, Coach Brett Brown could barely figure out a way to properly utilize him.

Whereas Thibs has found a way to coax out the best version we’ve ever seen of Alec Burks and he’s become a key contributor for this Knicks roster.

Burks has had some health concerns throughout the years, this past season being no different.

He played in 49 of a possible 72 games this year, but as I mentioned previously, when he’s on…he is ON.

The numbers he put up don’t do him any justice because the Knicks have won several games off of Burks’ contributions.

He finished the year off averaging roughly 13 points, 2 dimes, and 5 rebounds per game.

An absolute sniper from deep this year, he shot nearly 42% on 5 attempts per game.

Being that there’s rumors of players like Duncan Robinson getting between $18-20 million per year on a multi-year contract, Burks could possibly get something in that realm.

Seeing how we took a chance on him and he’s become the best version of himself under Coach Thibs, hopefully he gives the Knicks a hometown discount.

Verdict – I’m torn between a 2-year, $28 million contract with a team option on the 2nd year OR a 3-year, $33 million straight deal.
