What kind of extension should the NY Knicks give to Derrick Rose?

Imagine acquiring your team’s 3rd or possibly even 2nd best player (depending on who you ask) for just Dennis Smith Jr and a middling 2nd round pick.

That’s exactly what the Knicks did when acquiring Derrick Rose.

His impact on the team this season had him in the conversation for 6th Man of the Year and that regular season success has leaked into the playoffs already.

Rose put the Knicks on his back several times during Sunday’s game and as mentioned earlier, they likely wouldn’t have had a chance in that game had he not stepped up the way he did.

If we were just talking about the level of play Rose has been playing at and his impact on winning games throughout the year, I think he would demand upwards of $15-18 million per year over a 3-year deal.

But because this is Derrick Rose we’re talking about and there’s always going to be that stigma of whether he can make it through an entire season or not, the contract he receives is likely to be much lower.

Of the 3 players on this list, I think Rose is the one I would want back the most.

He’s been incredibly impressive and of everyone has really proven how much he wants to be here in New York.

For as long as Tom Thibodeau is a coach, both Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson will have an employment opportunity.

Verdict – Rose signs a bit of a sweetheart deal and comes back for a 2-year, $20 million deal.
