NY Knicks trade target #2 – DJ Augustin

So this one is a little weird.

I could easily see the Rockets just holding onto DJ Augustin because he’s only making around $7 million this season and can easily be cut without much of a dead cap hit in the following year.

Really it all depends on what the Rockets want to do with their cap space and roster in the offseason.

It’s evident they’re going to be rebuilding and getting rid of a lot of the older players like John Wall for example.

Maybe Augustin is a part of that same purging process.

Reuniting DJ with Coach Thibs could be a lot of fun, as the Bulls traded for him back in the 2013-14 season and he played some of the best basketball of his career that half a season.

Here’s the trade:

This one is simple and clean.

The Knicks give up some cash considerations and get back a future 2025 2nd rounder along with at least 1 season of DJ Augustin’s services.

Really this trade has a lot to do with what the Knicks decide to do, or not to do for that matter, at the point guard spot.

If someone came and offered Derrick Rose a massive contract and he decided to leave, and the Knicks also struck out on other trades or signings to improve the PG spot, bringing in DJ as a rotational piece could work.

He can still run an offense.

He’s shooting 38% from deep on his career alongside 4 assists per game. Not too shabby.
