Luka Garza could be a 2nd round steal for the Knicks

If you paid the smallest bit of attention to ESPN during college basketball season, you know who Luka Garza is.

He won numerous awards including the Wooden Award, Big Ten Player of the Year, and the Consensus National College Player of the Year.

Luka Garza averaged 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and shot 53% from the field, just monster stats.

Garza DOMINATED the college basketball scene, but the question around him is will his game translate to the NBA?

If you look at today’s NBA compared to the league years ago, you’ll notice there are not too many dominating centers. And that’s just because the game has evolved and it’s a shooter’s world we live in.

Why should the Knicks be interested in Luka Garza?

The Knicks currently have two very similar centers on their roster in Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel. Both are athletic rim protectors who score mostly from lobs or offensive rebounds.

Now there is no guarantee that we will be able to hang onto both Robinson and Noel, and who knows how much longer Taj Gibson can offer his services.

So if I’m the Knicks why not try to throw something different at the opposition when our second unit comes in with Luka Garza.

Garza can score in just about every way imaginable from the post, with his big frame it surely will cause defenders to get frustrated.

Now I’m not saying Garza will be a future All-Star in the NBA, but he could be a low-risk high-reward type of player. But just like the other two players I mentioned here, if the Knicks are on the clock in the second round and Garza is available, why not take a flyer?
