New York Knicks: Previewing the Upcoming Road Trip
By Toby Jaffe
New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Clippers
The Knicks will bookend the trip in Los Angeles after games in Denver and Phoenix.
First, the Clippers on May 9th. The game will be a rematch of an early-season battle at Madison Square Garden. The Clippers won that one 129-115. Kawhi Leonard led the scoring with 28 points while five other Clippers were in double digits. When the Clippers get that kind of production they are tough to beat regardless of who they are playing. They have the second-highest-rated offense in the league for a reason, and NYK will need to bring their A-game when protecting the hoop.
New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The final game of the road trip will be against the Lakers on May 11th.
It is entirely possible that LeBron James will be back from his ankle injury for this game, a worrying prospect on top of the recent return of Anthony Davis. When the Knicks hosted the Lakers at MSG on April 12th, neither superstar suited up. The Lakers supporting cast struggled to score as the Knicks dominated throughout and won 111-96. Randle exploded for 34 points while Elfrid Payton had one of his best offensive games of the year
New York will pray for injury-absence-related rust from LeBron James and continued rust from Anthony Davis, who has struggled with his scoring this week upon returning from his calf injury, averaging only16.3 points on 39 percent shooting.
