3 Players the NY Knicks should consider re-signing
NY Knicks: Alec Burks has been a microwave scorer off the bench
Alec Burks is another player whose production is far outpacing his contract. Last offseason, the Knicks signed Burks to just a one-year 6 million dollar contract. His hot shooting and scoring for the Knicks off the bench make his contract a bargain.
He’s become a reliable source of offense for the NY Knicks’ second unit. His 12.6 points per game, ranks 4th on the team behind Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Derrick Rose. He gives the Knicks another guy that can create offense for himself and others off the dribble very well. He also helps the Knicks to squeeze out victories when one of the Knick’s top players, like Julius Randle, has a rough shooting night because he’s a threat to go over off for over 20 points on any given night. He’s also been knocking down his 3s at a high clip this season, currently shooting 40.8% from 3, and his defense has also been solid.
Alec Burks has also been good for the Knicks in the clutch. In a key win against the Pelicans on April 14th this season, Burks scored 12 points in the 4th quarter to help close out the game. Thibodeau has been closing games with Burcs recently and he’s become someone that the Knicks can rely on to hit clutch shots down the stretch of games for the Knicks.
With the way he’s playing this year, Burks has definitely earned a pay raise. It may take a multi-year contract offer to bring him back but the Knicks should strongly consider giving him a new deal as he’s become a crucial part of the Knick’s recent success.
