Will The Knicks trade for a superstar?

While many Knicks fans are pushing for the team to trade for a superstar to pair with RJ Barrett and or Julius Randle, history has shown us this may not be the smart route.

For example, when the Knicks made a massive splash in 2011 to acquire superstar Carmelo Anthony, their fans, including myself, were ecstatic to bring in one of the best scorers and players in the league.

The harsh reality of that trade was the Knicks gave up too many draft picks and most of their depth in order to acquire him, which often led to early playoff exits. While trading for a superstar may seem like a no-brainer on paper, the Knicks should refrain from moving all of their draft capital and depth at all costs.

The Knicks are finally putting together a very good and young team that their fans have not seen in a long time and have a superstar in the making in Julius Randle.

Randle, at only 26 years old, has been improving every year and is showing up for the team in every category. He is averaging 23.6 points per game, 10.6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 41% from deep. Randle has especially been on a tear as of late.

This season, Randle has only missed one game as his durability has helped the Knicks exceed expectations.

With Randle playing at an elite level while showing constant improvement, there is no reason to believe he cannot be the Knicks superstar moving forward, which is why building around him would be a far smarter move.
