NY Knicks: Duncan Robinson is up for a payday

In Duncan Robinson’s first season in the NBA, he played in 15 games and shot 29% from three.  However, he put in the work and became quite the name in the NBA last year for his shooting ability.

Robinson shot 45% from three last season and shoots 40% this season.  He will be a free agent this summer, and there is a good chance he leaves the Miami Heat.  The former Division 3 player at Williams College is looking for a payday.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Robinson will likely follow the money, which could go from “anywhere between 15-20 Million annually.”

After watching two top perimeter shooters in Davis Bertans sign a 5 year/80 Million deal with the Washington Wizards and Joe Harris re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets on a 4 year/75 Million deal, it is believable that Robinson can get a serious payday.

The Heat have Robinson’s Bird Rights, and he is a restricted free agent, so prying him away to New York could be difficult. However, the Heat have a lot of guards and forwards. Between Victor Oladipo, Tyler Herro, Kendrick Nunn, and Jimmy Butler, Robinson is not guaranteed the minutes he could get in New York.

Robinson struggles on defense, but he seems to work very hard on the defensive end. Tom Thibodeau asks for his players to give their all on defense, and it is clear Robinson does that. The Knicks could also use a guy who almost exclusively shoots 3’s if they lose Bullock, who shoots 65% of his shots behind the arc, as mentioned by my DailyKnicks co-worker Tyler Harris. Robinson would be a pricy, but excellent long-term shooting option.
