2021 NBA Draft NY Knicks Final 4 Target #2 – Jared Butler

Jared Butler of Baylor should certainly be a target of New York’s with one of their two 2nd round picks.

Depending on how he performs against Houston this weekend will determine whether the Knicks should use their so very valuable 2nd round pick by way of Detroit that is projected to be at the very top of the round.

My colleague Toby Jaffe here with Daily Knicks went pretty in-depth on Butler in a recent article discussing players that Knicks fans should watch for in the Sweet 16.

Since then Butler has been a key cog in leading Baylor into the Final 4.

Butler is a crafty, combo-guard whose game should translate well at the professional level.

He’d be entering this year’s draft as a junior so he’s a bit older than the ‘one-and-dones’ atop this draft class.

The main skill Butler brings to the table that should help him maintain a role in the NBA for many years is his 3-point shooting ability.

He’s always been a solid overall scorer, but in college he’s improved year over year from behind the arc, finishing this past season at over 40% from long range.

I believe he would be in consideration to be selected in the bottom of the 1st round had he not been overshadowed by another Butler Bears’ standout, Davion Mitchell.

Mitchell is projected to go late in the lottery this year, so a team like the Knicks could reap the benefits just like they did last year with Tyrese Maxey and Immanuel Quickley.
