NY Knicks: The 4 Best RJ Barrett Games of the Season
By Max LoSardo
NY Knicks: Barrett outduels Beal | 3/25
- 24 points
- 10 rebounds
- 5 assists
- 3 steals
- 7 – 22 FG
- 8 – 11 FT
- 42 minutes
New York’s win against the Wizards is even more satisfying when compared to their opening day loss – Barrett was phenomenal in both games, but this is when he put to use the lessons learned early on. Barrett only scored 3 points in the first half as the Knicks put up their worst half of the season and trailed by 15. The second half was a different game, as Barrett exploded for 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Still trailing as the third quarter buzzer sounded, Barrett got his own rebound for the putback and helped swing the momentum for the team.
RJ Barrett is such an important presence in the paint – rare for shooting guards/small forwards. Against the Wizards he showed off his swiss army knife of tools down low. Here are some highlights from Barrett’s stellar play in the paint:
- Getting a rebound and dishing out to Reggie Bullock for the three
- Knocking Isaac Bogna back on his toes and tossing to Taj Gibson who was driving from the top of the key for the dunk
- Getting his his own rebound for the putback
- Passing through Russell Westbrook to Gibson off the pick and roll
- Getting the and-one on Bradley Beal off of a steal to tie the game with 4:45 remaining in the 4th quarter.
Much has been made about Barrett’s improved three point shooting. But his rebounding is so much of what makes him special. He’s had 4 double doubles this season. Expect many more in the years to come.
