NY Knicks: 3 trades for players who fit perfectly with Julius Randle
NY Knicks best fit with Julius Randle #2 – Evan Fournier
Evan Fournier is a player myself and my colleagues here at Daily Knicks have covered extensively and for good reason.
Another notable player mentioned in Ian Begley’s recent piece was Fournier, and it seems that the Knicks have had exploratory talks regarding the sharpshooting Frenchman.
"“New York and Orlando recently had a conversation about a trade involving Evan Fournier, per SNY sources. It’s unclear if that discussion reached an advanced stage.”"
Orlando doesn’t have a ton of leverage in a trade for Fournier as they’ve shown little-to-no interest in resigning him at the asking price he’d be looking for come the summer.
Here’s the trade I came up with:
As I mentioned, Orlando has little leverage in a trade for Fournier as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer so if they can get any value out of him, as little as it may be, they should.
The Magic have shown interest in acquiring Frank Ntilikina in the past so that move makes a lot of sense.
Reggie Bullock provides the team with an expiring contract that they’ll likely move on from in the summer.
The prize for Orlando would be that Detroit 2nd rounder which should end up as either the 31st or 32nd pick in the upcoming 2021 draft, which happens to be loaded top to bottom.
Evan Fournier is a bit slow-of-foot so that diminishes his impact on the defensive side of the ball but I feel as if any player coming to play for a Tom Thibodeau-led team automatically becomes at least serviceable on defense immediately.
Fournier does handle the rock a bit and would be yet another ball-handler to add to the Knicks’ starting lineup in place of Reggie Bullock.
What the Knicks lose on defense, they gain a player who is a walking bucket. The man just scores the basketball at every level.
Shutting down an offense led by Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Evan Fournier would be a tall task for literally any team in the NBA as they wouldn’t know who to key in on.
Fournier is averaging 19 points and 4 assists per game while shooting 38% on 7 attempts from deep.
He fits all 3 needs of this Knicks’ current roster and would be a tremendous addition.
