NY Knicks: The Nuggets are major players for Fournier

The Nuggets are a player away from being a legit contender in a loaded Western Conference. Their team isn’t as deep as last season’s, which surprised many by making it to the Western Conference Finals. But it is clear that Denver is not in the same level as the Lakers and Clippers whose top two players are better than Denver’s duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. They are also a cut below Utah who’s got more depth behind Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

For a team that hasn’t been a true contender since Carmelo Anthony played for them 10 seasons ago, it would be a shame if they didn’t do everything possible to maximize their championship window. Below is what Denver’s best offer might look like.

It would be interesting if Evan Fournier returned to the team that drafted him in 2012 and where he played his first two seasons in the NBA. In order to make that happen Denver would provide two young prospects: R.J. Hampton and Bol Bol. Include draft capital, a 1st round pick, and a 2nd round pick in 2023 (double draft).

They would need to include Gary Harris to match salaries and possibly fill the role of a veteran shooting guard. Harris’s deal only has 1 year left at $20.5M. While most teams would view it as an asset, Orlando might not since they are trying to shed salary. So, to help offset Harris’s salary the Nuggets would take back Al-Farouq Aminu who has 1 year left at $10.2M.

The addition of Fournier would relieve Jamal Murray of some of the playmaking responsibilities and provide the Nuggets that much-needed 3rd scorer. They would be able to sit either Jokic and Murray for longer stretches. Fournier would also flourish playing alongside Jokic as he would get more open looks than he is used to thanks to the big man’s superior passing skills, he averages 8.5 assists per game. While adding Fournier doesn’t make Denver the favorite in the West it does send a message to its franchise players and fans, they are committed to winning.
