The NY Knicks could really use Rudy Gay as a veteran scoring threat on the wing.

In the final trade, New York sends Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina, and Austin Rivers to the Spurs in exchange for Rudy Gay.

Rudy Gay is a good role player for the Spurs but with his contract about to expire, he doesn’t appear to have much of a future with the team.

The Spurs have already decided to part ways with LaMarcus Aldridge and to emphasize the playing time of their young guys.

With this move, the Spurs acquire Ntilikina and Knox, two young guys whose careers they can try to turn around, and Austin Rivers, a player who can potentially be an off-the-bench sparkplug.

Thibodeau has stopped playing Rivers but earlier in the year he was showing flashes of being a strong bench scorer, he could definitely use a change of scenery.

For New York, Rudy Gay would be another player that could help bolster their 3 point shooting and shot-making off the bench.

On the season, Gay is averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds per game, while draining 38.6% of his 3 pointers.

He’s playing a limited role for the Spurs off the bench but he would be a welcomed addition to the Knicks who could desperately need his shooting and shot creation abilities on the second unit.

Overall, New York is getting rid of a few players who aren’t much of a factor on this team and getting a solid role player who could increase the Knicks’ odds of making the postseason for the first time in seven years.
