Could the NY Knicks acquire Immanuel Quickely’s idol?

In the first trade, the Knicks trade for a player who’s consistently been one of the league’s top 6th men throughout his career.

It was reported earlier in the year that the Clippers were expected to shop Lou Williams so he could be on the market.

One of my colleagues here at Daily Knicks recently detailed why Patrick Beverly should be on the Knicks’ radar, but maybe they target Williams instead.

In this trade, New York sends over Elfrid Payton and a 2023 2nd round pick in exchange to the Clippers for Williams.

The Clippers have been in the trade market for a point guard for a while now so Payton would make sense on their roster.

Payton isn’t a huge upgrade but he gives them a point guard that can defend, penetrate and dish.

For New York, Lou Williams would address both the bench scoring and 3 point issues.

Lou Williams is having a down year compared to years past but he’s still averaging 12 points per game off the bench while shooting 40% from downtown.

With this move, the Knicks can make Derrick Rose the starting point guard and use Lou Williams as the team’s 6th man.

Lou Williams is still a player that can create offense for himself very easily off the dribble and he’s still a solid playmaker.

Additionally, he would also be a mentor for Knicks’ rookie Immanuel Quickley.

Immanuel Quickley has said in the past that Lou Williams is one of his favorite players.

‘Lou Will’ can be a veteran that helps Quickley reach his upside by showing him how to improve overall, so this is an addition that checks multiple boxes for New York.
