NY Knicks Draft Target: James Bouknight

James Bouknight, the standout sophomore guard from the University of Connecticut, would be a match made in heaven for the NY Knicks. At 6’5 he is a natural shooting guard, which would mean RJ Barrett would play alongside him at small forward.

Bouknight is a pure scorer and could drastically help the Knicks’ offense that has been the team’s achilles heel. The Brooklyn native averaged 19 points per game on 45.3% shooting in 31.1 minutes.

He can score in a variety of ways but is also very good at handling the ball as well as creating space for himself to score. He is a slasher who has struggled from three overall in his sophomore season but also has taken a very high volume of shots. He is a natural scorer with a smooth shooting stroke that should have no problem developing a significantly better three-point shot at the next level.

Bouknight is also a very good on-ball defender who averaged slightly over a steal per game in his final season at UConn. This could help the Knicks perimeter defense in a big way while also bolstering their offense massively.

Bouknight is also proven to be the type of player that shines against better competition and shows up when it matters most. According to Draft Express, Bouknight averaged 13.8 points per game against teams in power conferences. On the other hand, he averages just 11.7 points per game against the worse competition in low major conferences.

Bouknight embraces big moments and rises to his competition, which shows that he would best fit in a big market such as New York.
