The NY Knicks Offer for Buddy Hield

As we can see the teams the Knicks are competing with for Buddy Hield can’t address all the Kings’ needs: established power forward, young prospect, and draft capital.

What the Knicks need to do is offer a package that provides the Kings a path to get better next season while providing them salary cap flexibility.

The good news for the Knicks is that they can deal from areas of strength to provide a compelling package for Hield.

Below is the Knicks’ Godfather offer:

While the Knicks are not sending the Kings an established power forward, they are offering the Kings young talent at the forward positions.

The 76ers and Nuggets are offering young backcourt prospects, but that doesn’t interest the Kings as they have Tyrese Haliburton.

Obi Toppin is a true Power Forward that can step in and contribute. His only issue is that he plays behind Julius Randle that is now a cornerstone player for the Knicks.

A Fox and Toppin pick & roll would be a scary sight for defenses.

Then you have Kevin Knox who has shown improvement and can play both forward positions and is only 21 years old.

The Knicks would also include Frank Ntilikina who does a lot of the same things as Haliburton and provides great perimeter defense for a team that sorely needs it.

The Kings would get a chance to look at Frank who is only 22 years old and would be a good fit for the motion offense Luke Walton likes to run. Frank would be the Knicks’ counter to the 76ers’ offer of Thybulle.

The Knicks would also give the Kings much-needed draft capital. They would give them the lesser of their two 2021 1st round picks as the Knicks are not in the development phase anymore and one of their three 2nd rounders in the coveted 2023 draft (double draft).

The Kings roster would look more balanced with the Knicks offer and it would allow them to move on from Marvin Bagley who has been a major disappointment.

They would also be in a position to make additional moves to improve their team further.

As for the Knicks, Buddy Hield provides them much-needed outside shooting and the ideal third scoring option to compliment Randle and Barrett’s games.

The acquisition of Hield would make the Knicks better without capping their ceiling. Hield’s contract is reasonable as it decreases by $2M per season.

Going into the 2021-22 season the Knicks would have Buddy Hield at $22M, Julius Randle making $20.7M, and R.J. Barrett at $8.6M.

Plus, they still would have all their draft picks and extra 2nd round picks.

That is a team that can compete now and still is in a position to acquire a superstar.
