The NY Knicks can’t contend for a 2021 Championship like the Nuggets

If you’re trying to find a title contender who can pull off a trade for Oladipo without giving up their most valuable assets, why not the Denver Nuggets?

After making it to the Western Conference Finals last season, the Nuggets find themselves at 21-15, currently 6th in the West. As they showed in the playoffs last season, this Nuggets team can compete with anyone in the league. They have a legitimate MVP candidate in Nikola Jokic, and maybe they’re thinking they need to add just a little more firepower to get to the gold.

The Nuggets may not be as heavily rumored a destination as the NY Knicks, Miami Heat, or The Golden State Warriors, but they may be the team that can pull of a trade that actually makes sense for both sides.

I don’t see any reality where the Nuggets are giving up Michael Porter Jr., who is already a prominent part of the team’s success. Gary Harris would ideally be a part of the Nuggets’ package. The 26-year-old has missed some games due to injury but plays heavy minutes when healthy. Harris has two years left on his deal, and the Rockets can remain flexible for the future with Harris.

In this trade, the Nuggets would throw in one of their two prized developmental prospects: Bol Bol or RJ Hampton. Both players have plenty of potential but haven’t cracked the Nuggets’ rotation.

The Rockets would acquire a starting-caliber 2-guard to take Oladipo’s place for the foreseeable future along with an exciting young player who would get more playing time on their roster. The Nuggets add yet another playmaker who can take on a heavy load of responsibilities, and potentially get them to the NBA finals.

At this point, Oladipo trade talks are mostly speculation. Still, it appears the likelihood Oladipo will get traded is higher than most of the other names in the rumor mill. Whether the NY Knicks are seriously considering him or not, they will certainly have competition for the Rockets’ guard.
