NY Knicks trade for Luka Doncic #1

This would be my ideal trade and I use the word “ideal” very loosely.

There’s nothing ideal about trading your entire future all for just one player.

If that player’s name was LeBron James at the age of 25, then we’d have something to consider here.

We all know Luka is great, heck, he could eventually be the next LeBron James for all we know.

But moving the amount of young talent and draft capital necessary to bring back Luka legitimately hurts my soul.

I’m a diehard Knicks fan but I’m also a realist and even if the Knicks added Doncic and a whole slew of players wanted to come to the Knicks as a result of that, I still don’t see it as a Championship winning move.

Maybe a few years from now, but not now.

Here’s the trade I thought up:

I strongly considered leaving IQ out but I don’t see the Mavs pulling the trigger without him included.

It’s a lot to give up. This one hurts, but it won’t hurt as bad as the next trade that’s for sure.

The Knicks obviously acquire Luka Doncic here, and he’d be coming over with James Johnson mainly for salary matching/dumping purposes and would also be absorbing Josh Richardson’s 2-year contract.

The Mavs would most likely be cleaning house and this point and the Knicks would have supplied them with a brand new starting 5 along with a slew of picks.

Would actually be hilarious if the Knicks just shipped both Dallas 1st rounders back to them.

“Here, don’t need these anymore, you can have them!”

Potential Starting 5 after trade: Derrick Rose, Luka Doncic, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Nerlens Noel
