Sterling Brown could be a cheap upgrade for the NY Knicks

Rockets trade Sterling Brown | Knicks trade Ignas Brazdeikis

Calling the Houston Rockets a disappointment this season would be an understatement.  First, they had to ship off superstar James Harden to Brooklyn and despite having a great trio of John Wall, Victor Oladipo, and Christian Wood, they’re stuck with an underwhelming record of 11-23 (14th in the West).

The chemistry isn’t there and the Rockets are another team I can assure you will be selling at the deadline. Why bring up Houston? Well, Sterling Brown is having a season that not a lot of people are paying attention to. Averaging 22 minutes in 32 games played, the 26-year-old is shooting a career-best 40% from behind the arc. The former Milwaukee Buck is only averaging 7.4 points per game however he has been a valuable and consistent bench piece for the Rockets throughout the first half of the season.

With only one year on his deal, there is essentially no reason for the team to keep him on the roster. On the flip side, the Knicks exchanging Ignas Brazdeikis in this deal makes all the sense in the world. The Knicks have had plenty of chances to give him a chance to play good minutes on the pro club and it’s just never occurred. With the Knicks being a competitive squad this year, I don’t see Brazdeikis getting much of a shot with the Knicks. A trade to Houston would allow him to get playing time on a team that’s trying to find out who they want to keep on their roster for the distant future.

On the plus side for the Rockets, Brazdeikis has another year left on his deal so if they like what they see, they’ll be able to ensure they have a full season out of him in 2022. Sterling Brown definitely won’t be signing with another team like the Rockets this offseason, especially after the underrated year he’s been having. I see this being a quality deal that might go under the radar of a lot of fans, but trust me when I say it’s worth it.
