Prior to this season, the New York Knicks have had 17 players make a grand total of 39 NBA-All Star Teams since fans started voting during the 1974-75 season.

Julius Randle makes All-Star number 18.

The New York Knicks All-Star with the lion’s share of those appearances is probably no surprise. Patrick Ewing was selected to eleven All-Star teams during his time with the franchise. Carmelo Anthony is in second place with six. Walt Frazier, Allan Houston, Bernard King, Earl Monroe, and Michael Ray Richardson are the other players to make more than one All-Star team.

All that storied history, and my excitement about the game on Sunday night, roused my curiosity about who had the single best performance in All-Star Games.

So I did my homework, poured over box scores from before I was born, and scribbled figures in my handy-dandy notebook to create this list for you, New York Knicks fans.

Keep in mind that comparing these games can be tough. As history went on, the game has changed wildly. For example, Carmelo Anthony’s 12 rebounds in 2013 might carry a lot more weight than 12 rebounds in the 80s or 90s. On the flipside, scoring 30 points in a game where the winning team scores 200 also doesn’t carry the same weight as scoring 20 points in a game where the winning team scored 100.

Comment below or respond on Twitter or Facebook where Randle’s performance should fall after the game.

I do want to start with one quick Honorable Mentions: Willis Reed won All-Star Game MVP prior to fans voting and therefore is not on this list. He probably would have been near the top had I gone further back for this piece.
