NY Knicks: 3 Draft “busts” the Knicks could trade for
By Mark Wessol
The NY Knicks and draft busts, two things that have been synonymous way too often in my lifetime.
But hey, the Knicks are not the only team to have drafted players who never panned out.
There have been players all over the league who just did not perform to expectations. But who’s to say they will never be valuable? Perhaps a change of scenery is all they need.
You look at players like Zach Lavine, Victor Oladipo, and even our very own Julius Randle, while these guys are not and should not have ever been considered “busts”, they all changed teams and have become legitimate stars in this league.
Heck, we’ve tried trading for both Zach LaVine and Victor Oladipo several times recently…clearly, they’ve turned their games around for the better when they were introduced to a new setting.
Not everything works out right away. Some things take time to develop, and NBA prospects are one of those things.
Should the NY Knicks trade for some reclamation projects for help?
There are many players out there who were highly rated coming into the NBA and still are looking to reach that potential.
There is no doubt the Knicks have exceeded expectations so far this year, and quite frankly even us fans are shocked.
Usually, we are used to the Knicks doing the same old things, doing their due diligence on players looking to change teams or selling players high who have had strong starts to the season.
But this season could be different. The Knicks have put themselves in a great opportunity to build on what they have started, and this could mean taking fliers on players who had a high ceiling coming into the league but never reached their potential.
If you think about it, these players will essentially be low-risk, high-rewards.
They won’t cost the Knicks much and could ultimately end up as a strong valued player.
Could the Knicks take a risk on any of them? Maybe.
