Yet again, I shall repeat my previous sentiment……The Dallas Mavericks already lost the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks!

To quote Michael Scott from The Office “Well, well, well…….How the turntables…..”

It’s been exactly one month since I published an article about how I believe the Mavericks already lost the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the Knicks so it’s only fitting that I write a reactionary piece discussing what has transpired since then.

The Dallas Mavericks have already lost the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks. That is all.

After the most Knicks bashing and hate mail I have ever received, along with 114 comments on that article telling me I didn’t understand the sport of basketball and many other distasteful words, here we are.

A trade once recognized as an absolute fleecing of the Knicks is now being viewed as an “aggressive” deal to help pair Luka with his “perfect” running mate.

There have been rumors about the Mavericks potentially looking to offload Kristaps Porzingis recently.

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report wrote a piece on how the Mavericks are quietly gauging Porzingis’ trade value amongst the league. I for one am not surprised whatsoever.

My colleagues over at The Smoking Cuban, another FanSided site gave their opinion on the piece as well.

Between Dallas’s slow start to the season and Kristaps Porzingis’ health concerns, moving the 7’3 Latvian seems like the thing to do at this point if the team plans on capitalizing on Luka Doncic’s superstardom while he’s still on his rookie contract.

The good news for Dallas is that if they were to move Porzingis soon, along with a few expiring contracts such as Tim Hardaway Jr’s deal, it could pair Luka with some decent young players and give the Maverick’s front office nearly $60 million worth of cap space heading into the 2021 free agency period.

Aw, you guys have to rebuild again? Bummer.

On top of all the reasons that I mentioned in my previous article regarding the Mavericks losing the Porzingis trade with the Knicks, one that I failed to mention is that the cap space the Knicks cleared up in that deal, while of course it was meant for signing superstars (i.e. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving), was used to sign Julius Randle, who has turned into a bit of a superstar in his own right.

Recently I’ve discussed who I believed was the better of the 2 players in Julius Randle and Kristaps Porzingis and also graded out several aspects of their games and contributions to their respective teams.

Unsurprisingly, Julius Randle won that by a landslide, and now with this recent news, it further solidifies all of the points I’ve been trying to make for the past 30 days.

Hey, Mavericks fans…….remember that 2021 1st round pick the Knicks got in the Porzingis trade? Because we do. If Porzingis is in fact traded, there’s a very good chance that pick ends up being just a little bit better than you all thought it would be.

In conclusion, to all the crying, whining, little baby Dallas Mavericks fans out there, kick rocks! I’m a New Yorker and have been an unwavering Knicks fan all of my life. We got thick skin over here.

Hope y’all come after me for this one too, because I want ALL THE SMOKE!
