Should the New York Knicks take a flyer on Kevin Porter Jr.?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to shop or waive former 2019 first round pick Kevin Porter Jr. and the New York Knicks should look to capitalize on the situation.

Porter Jr threw a bit of a tantrum last week after having his locker moved to make room for Taurean Prince’s belongings, who was acquired alongside Jarrett Allen during the massive 4-team trade which sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets.

The outburst resulted in the former USC standout having a yelling match with the Cavaliers staff and then began throwing food around the locker room. Porter Jr. was then confronted by the Cavs’ general manager Koby Altman in an attempt to calm him down, but to no avail.

The way I see it, Porter Jr. is just 20 years old and kids make mistakes. From a basketball perspective, I see a guy who prides himself on his defense, while averaging 10 points per game on efficient scoring percentages.

Another young talent added to an up-and-coming Knicks roster headed by defensive guru Tom Thibodeau could only help. One thing I see this Knicks team priding itself on is it’s culture. Bringing in a troubled kid like Porter normally can cause issues within the locker room, but in a situation when everyone buys into what the organization is trying to accomplish, as the Knicks have, one bad egg shouldn’t ruin the bunch.

Now is the perfect time to trade for Lonzo. dark. Next

If KPJ could be had for basically two 2nd round picks, or a pick and Ignas Brazdeikis, I say pull the trigger immediately. Low-risk, high-reward trade.
