Knicks: 3 buy-low trade options for shooting help
Evan Fournier & 2021 2nd rounder for Kevin Knox, Elfrid Payton, Dennis Smith Jr, and Dallas’ 2023 1st round pick
Orlando should look to move on from Evan Fournier soon, as he’s in the last year of his $85 million, 5-year deal and looking for an extension that the Magic seem reluctant to give him.
Fournier is coming off his best season yet, averaging 18.5 points and 40% shooting from 3-point range. While these numbers are impressive, his output this season has taken a bit of a nosedive. He’s averaging under 15 points per game and his 3-point percentage has dipped down to below 35% on the new season. Recent reports have stated that Fournier wants out of Orlando, so this drop in production may be due to unhappiness with the organization. He would be a tremendous fit on the Knicks starting 5, and the trade would allow another great shooter in Immanuel Quickley to start and create that much more spacing for RJ and Randle to shine.
Losing Kevin Knox would hurt my soul, but with Orlando still waiting on Jonathan Isaac to return from his ACL tear late last season, adding another forward to rotate with James Ennis might be the “Magic” remedy. Additionally, with Markelle Fultz also going down to an ACL tear just a little while ago, Orlando could use a starting-caliber point guard, and who else would be better than former Magic first-round draft pick Elfrid Payton? Perhaps a return back to his roots where everything started could convince the Knicks guard to waive his No-Trade clause.
Last, but not least, DSJ is there for salary purposes and salary purposes only. I’m kind of done with the guy and wish him well, but not here with the Knicks any longer. Hopefully, he’s able to find success elsewhere but I’d rather his roster spot for someone who can add value to the Knicks roster this year.
