The Leadership

This is the most obvious benefit to adding a player like Chandler. The journeyman has done a phenomenal job of transitioning into a new role during the latter part of his career. His impact on the roster and locker room has been publicly been complimented by NBA visionaries such as head coach Mike D’Antoni and superstar LeBron James in recent seasons.

As the Knicks continue to target young talent to add to their recent core of high draft picks, a player who has existed in the NBA spotlight for half his like (literally!) could serve as a massive boost.

There is no way that Chandler could completely replicate the cultural impact that Udonis Haslem has had on the Miami Heat after devoting his entire 17-year career to the franchise. However, he could provide some of the same benefit.

Chandler has played through countless coaches, teammates, schemes, and winning levels. He would assuredly command instant respect among a young and impressionable New York roster.

Additionally, Chandler boasts the NBA Championship accolades he won as a member of the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Throw in his Gold Medal winning experience as a member of Team USA and it becomes clear that the seven-footer still has value as an active roster member.
