1. A Coach who wants to be here

Moving our attention back to the court, and more specifically to the bench, we’ll find ourselves watching new coach Tom Thibodeau’s every single move. Is he more of a stander, or a sitter? Does he have enough vocal chops after decades of yelling to get on the players when their defensive intensity might not be up to par? Has he truly learned from the end of his Chicago Bulls tenure and his disappointing run with the Minnesota Timberwolves? We’ll be judging him like someone sitting across from us on a first date, but if we want a long term relationship with him, we’ll need to have some of these questions answered sooner rather than later.

At the end of the day, Knicks fans should be thankful that Thibs truly seems to want to be here. After seeing a young Thibs prowl the sidelines in the late 1990’s with the same intensity he figures to bring now, it appears only fitting that he’s made his way back to sit in the lead chair. “It’s a dream come true for me,” said Thibodeau. “This is my dream job. … Maybe part of that, I grew up in Connecticut. My dad, my family, we grew up as Knicks fans. I’ve been there before, I have a great understanding of New York. I think we have the best city in the world, the best arena and the best fans. I was there during the 90s and it was an amazing experience. ”

Whatever the result, fans know that Thibs knows how much it means for them to have a contender to root for again, which we can take pride in.
