NBA Mock Draft: Who do the Knicks take at 8th and 27th?
15. Orlando Magic, Cole Anthony, PG, UNC
While the Magic have built a nice young core, it will be difficult for them to improve the roster beyond the draft due to their financial commitments. The team might try to use Aaron Gordon in a trade to clear up cap space and move up in the draft, but it’s hard to say if there will be any takers for a deal like that.
Their most pressing need is finding guard depth, especially if Evan Fournier decides to leave despite the uncertain free agent market. Adding a ball-handler who can mesh with Markelle Fultz will be a priority. Cole Anthony could be the answer. He would give the Magic a two-headed monster in the backcourt.
16. Portland Trail Blazers, RJ Hampton, G, New Zealand
The Blazers will spend this offseason figuring out how they can take the next step in building a championship contender around Damian Lillard. As a team over the luxury tax during the past two seasons, finding value in the draft is important.
Combo guard RJ Hampton is an intriguing option as a depth piece to their star-studded backcourt. The 19-year-old would give Portland a young player to develop as their veteran core ages. His size and defensive acumen can provide value in the short-term as he learns how to become an NBA guard.
