19. Brooklyn Nets, Jalen Smith, F, Maryland
It seems like forever ago when the Brooklyn Nets shocked the basketball world by signing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. We will finally see whether the two superstars can turn the Nets into title contenders when the 2020-21 season arrives in late December
A player who has been tied to Brooklyn in the pre-draft process is Maryland forward Jalen Smith. The 6-foot-10 youngster put up 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds while playing for the Terps. While he could take some time to develop, he would give the Nets an important stretch forward who can also protect the rim.
20. Miami Heat, Precious Achiuwa, F/C, Memphis
After reaching the NBA Finals and reminding everyone that Pat Riley is perhaps the best team-building executive in basketball, the Heat enter the offseason in strong position to improve their roster even further. They can create cap space in a tight market and will try to turn their 20th pick into another draft night find.
Jalen Smith would be a nice fit for the Heat, but if he is off the board by the time they pick, Precious Achiuwa would be a high value pick this late in the first round. The high-energy defender needs to improve his shot, but he could turn into a suitable replacement if Kelly Olynyk declines his player option, or leaves after this season.
