17. Minnesota Timberwolves, Tyrese Maxey, G, Kentucky

With all of the focus on Minnesota’s top pick in the draft, having another first round selection could turn into trade capital for them. The Wolves have very little cap flexibility this offseason, to the point where paying for an extra first round pick, or even saving an extra roster spot, might motivate them to swing a deal.

I am going to put Tyrese Maxey at this spot, as he could become an attractive player for other teams looking to trade back or net a young guard in a bigger deal. The Knicks, with their Kentucky connections, could be a team intrigued by Maxey.

18. Dallas Mavericks, Aleksej Pokusevski, F, Olympiacos

The Mavericks are another team who probably prefer to trade this pick than try to find a late first round steal. With the emergence of Luka Doncic, Dallas will be looking to add complementary pieces around their budding superstar, ready to win as soon as possible.

One name that has been linked to the Mavs is Serbian forward Aleksej Pokusevski. Many believe he is the type of international prospect the organization likes to take chances on, so why not keep the trend alive with the 7-foot Porzingis-lite prospect? Seems like people are forcing it a bit, but “Poku” definitely has tantalizing upside, so if you’re looking for a high-ceiling prospect late in the first round, he’s the guy.
