1) Best free agent power forwards: Christian Wood

It’s not often that a 25-year-old forward with the upside of Christian Wood becomes available on the unrestricted free agent market. But his unusual path to becoming a budding star has him hitting free agency at an early age.

Contract: An argument could be made that Wood deserves the largest contract among free agent power forwards this offseason, leaving Anthony Davis’ situation in Los Angeles aside. Does that mean he is going to get some crazy number? Probably not. Teams might be reluctant to invest big on a player who hasn’t proven to be a star-level talent over the full course of a season. However, expect him to receive competitive offers in the $15 million annual salary range.

Game: After Andre Drummond was traded to Cleveland, Wood came into his own. Over the final five games before the season was shutdown, he averaged 26.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 62.1 percent from the field, including 43.5 percent from downtown. Overall, he has proven to be an effective scorer who can space the floor with an improving three-point shot.

Fit: Wood is a great fit for the Knicks. His age fits their timeline. He can continue to develop his game along with the rest of the young roster. He can also find a place next to Mitchell Robinson, perhaps offsetting minutes at times, but not a train wreck if the two play together.
