Taj Gibson: Non-guaranteed at $9.45 million

Vote to Keep

There’s no way the Knicks are bringing back Taj Gibson for $9.45 million next season. However, the Thibs disciple could certainly find his way back on the roster under new contract terms. New York could waive him and re-sign him to a team-friendly rate. Gibson, 35, could provide veteran leadership and an added mouthpiece in the locker room to translate Tom Thibodeau’s philosophy to the younger players. Taj played under Thibs in both Chicago and Minnesota.

Vote for Change

There are only so many players you can keep on the roster for “veteran leadership” when you are trying to assemble talent. The Knicks will most likely keep Reggie Bullock around at $4.2 million. Who knows if they eventually pull off a trade for Chris Paul or sign some veterans on the open market. Re-signing Gibson is definitely an option, but shouldn’t be at the expense of a roster spot for a more talented player.
