3) Option for the Knicks with the 27th pick: Devon Dotson, G, Kansas

Unlike the previous two options outlined in this article, Kansas guard Devon Dotson isn’t going to blow you away with his perimeter shooting. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of lighting things up on the court.

The speedy point guard might be the perfect fit for a Tom Thibodeau coached basketball team. He dictates pace with the ball in his hands and he has built a reputation as one of the best defending guards in the draft.

His stingy on-ball defense held opponents to 0.44 points per isolation possession this past season, which ranked him in the 88th percentile, per Synergy tracking data.

On the other side of the ball, the 6-foot-2 sophomore led the Big 12 in scoring by averaging 18.1 points this past season, while adding 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. His three-point shot isn’t the most efficient, but he isn’t afraid to put the ball up from the perimeter, attempting over four threes per game.

His strength is his ability to create shots using his quickness off the dribble. He consistently attacks the rim and can finish with both hands. He completed his final college season ranked first in the Big 12 in transition scoring and pick-and-roll scoring. So in either the open floor or half-court sets, he knows how to generate offense.

The new front office has a decision to make in whether they want to keep young guard Damyean Dotson in New York. Perhaps they will add another Dotson (no relation) to the mold through the draft.
